This notice explains what personal data NodeZ collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what rights you have.
1. Who is responsible
The controller of your personal data is NodeZ. For any privacy question or request, contact contact@node-z.com.
2. What we collect and why
Account and license
Your email address, your license key, and your subscription status and paid-until date. We need these to give you a license, deliver it to you, let you sign in to the customer portal, and check that your subscription is active.
Device activation
When you activate NodeZ, the app sends us:
- a machine fingerprint, which is a SHA-256 hash of a Windows machine identifier. It is a one-way hash and does not tell us who you are or let us identify your computer outside of NodeZ;
- your computer's hostname, so you can recognise your own devices in the portal;
- the NodeZ version you are running.
We use this only to enforce the one-device limit and to let you release a device yourself.
Your projects when you build a mod
NodeZ generates code on our server. When you press Build, the app sends your project graph to us, our server turns it into Enforce Script, and sends the result back to you.
Your project data is processed in memory to produce your code and is not stored on our servers. It is not written to disk, not kept in logs, and not used to train anything or shown to anyone.
Payments
Payments are handled by PayPal. Your payment details go directly to PayPal and we never see or store them. PayPal shares your email address and the status of your subscription with us so we can issue and maintain your license.
Server logs
Our server and its hosting provider keep basic technical logs, such as IP addresses and timestamps, to keep the service running and to detect abuse. These are kept for a short period.
Discord Rich Presence
If you use Discord and the feature is active, the NodeZ editor tells Discord that you are using NodeZ so it can appear on your profile. This is handled by the Discord client on your own computer, and what Discord does with it is governed by Discord's own privacy policy. Turning off Rich Presence in Discord stops it.
3. Legal bases
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Providing your license, validating it, generating your code | Performance of our contract with you |
| Preventing license sharing and abuse, keeping the service secure | Our legitimate interests |
| Invoicing, tax, and accounting records | Legal obligation |
| Sending you service emails such as your license key and sign-in links | Performance of our contract with you |
4. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share only what is needed with:
- PayPal for processing payments;
- Strato, which hosts our server and provides our email;
- Discord, only if Rich Presence is active, and only that you are using NodeZ.
5. How long we keep it
- License and account records: while your subscription is active, and afterwards for as long as we need them for accounting and tax purposes.
- Device activations: until you release the device or the license ends.
- Project data sent for code generation: not retained.
- Technical logs: a short retention period.
6. Security
- All traffic between NodeZ, this website, and our server uses HTTPS.
- License keys are stored on our server as a hash, not in readable form.
- On your computer, your license key is encrypted using Windows DPAPI, so it is tied to your Windows account.
- Sign-in links for the customer portal are cryptographically signed and expire after 15 minutes.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email contact@node-z.com.
If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Note that if you ask us to delete your license record while your subscription is active, we will no longer be able to validate your license and the subscription will effectively end.
8. Children
NodeZ is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
9. Changes to this notice
If we change this notice materially, we will update the date above and announce it on the site.
